Need to calculate wind load on a light fixture before selecting a pole?

Our nationwide service provides engineering reports with EPA and wind force calculations based on your project location and mounted equipment.

Designed for solar streetlights, security cameras, EV chargers, signs, and other elevated hardware..

No pole yet? No problem — get the wind data first, then select a compliant support structure later.

This service provides a engineering report that calculates the Effective Projected Area (EPA) and total wind load (lbs) for your solar streetlight, camera, sign, or other mounted fixture.

🌎 Who This Is For

Solar lighting manufacturers sizing poles before deployment
Municipal agencies or DOT contractors
Commercial signage designers
Telecom companies installing camera towers or antennas
EV charging canopy engineers

Even if your client doesn’t know what EPA is, you’ll solve that problem for them.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is an EPA Rating?

EPA stands for Effective Projected Area — it represents the wind-facing surface area of a fixture (such as a solar panel or light) adjusted for shape and drag. It’s used to calculate wind pressure and ensure your selected pole or structure can withstand the forces acting on it.

Why do I need this report before choosing a pole?

Poles are rated for maximum EPA at certain wind speeds and heights. By knowing your EPA and total wind load before pole selection, you ensure you pick a pole that’s code-compliant and safe, avoiding overdesign or costly rework.

Is this report compliant with local building codes?

Yes. All reports follow ASCE 7-22 and are compliant with the 2023 Florida Building Code (FBC) and most other U.S. jurisdictions. We use the ASCE Hazard Tool to pull accurate wind speeds by location. *See states available below.

What do I need to provide?

We’ll need:

  • Project address or ZIP code

  • Mounting height of the fixture

  • Fixture description and dimensions (solar panel, light head, battery box, etc.)

  • Optional: Product cut sheet or photo

You’ll submit all this via a short intake form after checkout.

Is the report stamped by a licensed engineer?

Yes. All standard reports include an signed and sealed engineering letter by a licensed PE*. We are licensed in Florida and several other states, with nationwide coverage available. *See states available below.

How fast will I get my report?

  • Standard delivery: 3–5 business days

  • Rush option: 24-hour turnaround available for an additional fee in certain situations

Can I order this if I don’t have the pole yet?

Absolutely. This product is designed for clients who don’t have the pole selected yet. Once you get the pole spec sheet, we offer a Pole Compatibility Add-on ($150) for a follow-up review and stamped approval. *See states available below.

What if I have multiple fixtures or locations?

We offer bulk pricing for manufacturers, lighting engineers, and municipalities. Contact us directly if you need 3+ reports or multi-site coverage. *See states available below.

Can this be used for permitting?

Yes. The stamped letter and calculation report are often accepted by local building departments and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) as part of pole and fixture submittals.

Is this only for solar lights?

No. This report can be used for:

  • Solar lighting fixtures

  • Signs and billboards

  • Cameras and antennas

  • EV chargers

  • Any pole-mounted equipment subject to wind
